A Better Way to Manage Your Everyday Money - Book - Page 81
Lois and I give ourselves a weekly allowance of $250. On Thursday, Lois cashes a check and
puts the money in her wallet. When she has at least $50 left over from the previous week and
doesn’t need it in the coming week, she deducts the left over amount from the next check. I then
recycle the leftover allowance money back into the Unallocated ledger when I enter the
allowance withdrawal.
Lois records the allowance checks in
a check register instead of entering
them in PerNetFlow. Typically, I
update Lois’ allowance withdrawals
and other checks in PerNetFlow
from her check register in
preparation for paying bills or
balancing the checking account. That
way Lois isn’t bothered with having
to use the program and I can enter
the checks she has written whenever
it’s convenient. In essence, using a manual check register puts access to PerNetFlow in Lois’
wallet.
We’ve been doing our allowance this way for several years. It’s a weekly habit.
